The Federal Trade Commission has placed more than 130 Web sites purportedly offering free credit reports under close watch for their allegedly questionable business practices. The FTC sent letters to the online companies warning them not to charge consumers a fee for a credit report that is provided free under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act.
