CFPB Director Kathy Kraninger has adopted a balanced approach in public enforcement actions in recent months, according to an analysis by one law firm.

The bureau has denied Bank of America’s petition to set aside a civil investigative demand over possible unauthorized accounts.

The CFPB in a new report noted that the credit card market is growing fast and the use of new technology has potential to enhance consumers’ financial well-being.

The CFPB recently fined Texas-based Maxitransfers Corp. $500,000 for violations of the Remittance Transfer Rule. This is the bureau’s first enforcement action under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act.

The mortgage industry would likely benefit from the CFPB’s proposed new policy on its no-action letter and sandbox program, said industry experts.

Almost two dozen Democratic state attorneys general have opposed the CFPB’s proposal to encourage industrywide innovation under the cover of regulatory sandboxes. In a comment letter sent to CFPB Director Kathy Kraninger, the AGs said the proposal is “ill-considered.”
